The theme of Passion’s Bitter Cup is the cost of living and loving passionately, be it a matter of temperament or philosophical conviction. The works translated into English for inclusion in this book were written between 1880 and 1920 by the following classical Ukrainian male authors: Mykola Chernyavsky, Ivan Franko, Hnat Khotkevych, Yevhen Mandychevsky, Mykola Mohylyansky, Stepan Vasylchenko, Volodymyr Vynnychenko, Sylvester Yarychevsky, and Mykhaylo Zhuk.
