Heirloom pre-1700. The Connecticut Field Pumpkin was grown by Native Americans prior to the arrival of the Europeans. The pumpkins are large and run to 25 pounds. Globe shaped and a bit flattened. The flesh is much coarser than the more modern varieties but the flavor is good. The Connecticut Field Pumpkin makes a dandy Jack O Lantern.

Starting Indoors:3-4 weeks before the last frost. Sow 2-3 seeds per cells/pots, thin to the strongest seedling. We like to use individual biodegradable paper, peat, or cow pots because it provides the least amount of stress to the roots when transplanting. Transplant after last frost when the soil warms to 70F. Space36–48 apart, in rows 48-60 apart.
