The Kozak era is inextricably connected with the flourishing and development of the Ukrainian nation, the establishment of a system of laws and growth towards independence. Current historians, with the aid of newly found documents, materials and historical studies, have established a global picture of Ukrainian Kozaks. The second volume analyzes the ethno – national aspects of the Kozaks, their legal system and courts; orthodox tradition, heraldry, codification of history and position in the Western European world. Particular emphasis is on the evolution of Kozaks after the liquidation of the Kozak state, infusion of other ethnic structures, and the rebirth of “kozakdom” in contemporary Ukraine.
